The Science behind Therapeutic Light
One need only read the ancient scrolls of the Egyptians to understand the power of light on all living things. The sun god, Ra was responsible for successful crops, the birth of kings and inspiration for some of the greatest monuments in human history. Western medicine has scoffed at the use of light as a therapeutic modality until recently. Aside from using full spectral lights for Hyperbillirubinemia, light therapy was thought to be more mystical than scientific. However, recent advances in neuroscience have given us new reasons to explore the therapeutic benefits of light therapy for a plethora of human ailments.
Just beneath the skin are millions of light-sensitive receptors. Some are responsible for the release of endorphins to the local tissues while others are associated with Interleukin receptors that trigger immuno-reactions. Lumen Light therapy was designed to trigger a wide array of these receptors promoting a reduction in pain and inflammation while increasing vascular integrity and cytokine exchange.
The various settings on the Lumen Light Therapy control changes the frequency driving the light waves into the subdermal tissues. The lower numbers are more focus and have been measured at 5 centimeters to 7 centimeters in penetration. The higher numbers are more diffuse covering a wider area with less penetration. The NICO setting offers segmented intervals from the lower settings to the higher settings assuring that all of the light sensitive receptors are addressed through the therapy session.
Using a visible light wavelength along with non-visible wavelength, the lighting array on the Lumen system is unique. The variable pulse and a square wave frequencies change the duration and intensity of the penetration which promotes an even release of energy without over-stimulation. In turn, the physiological responses are longer lasting. So pain levels remain low after therapy and vascular tissues remain open and intact.
The clinical applications obviously include pain control and reduction of inflammation. However, the number of neuro-cytokines and immuno-cytokines found just beneath the skin surface open the door to a plethora of conditions that can be addressed through the Lumen System. Though not a cure, Lumen Light Therapy can offer lasting remission for patients suffering from immune and auto-immune disease, neuro-degenerative disease and chronic pain due to injury or pathology. This non-invasive therapeutic approach to health is not contraindicated for any condition. It can safely be used on all age groups and will not promote the spread of exacerbation of any existing disease.
The scientific frontier of light therapy has come a long way in 3,000 years. Lumen Light Therapy is the product of evidence-based science inspired by people who care deeply for the health and vitality of others.
