InLight Photon Light Therapy as Prophylactic Treatment for Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD)

A PuMed article (PMID:10418699) reported about a study regarding patients with Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) to explore whether depressive episodes associated with SAD could be prevented by daily use of bright light before the onset of symptoms in early fall and continued usage throughout the winter.  They also wanted to know if the light had to be visible in order to have beneficial effects.

Patients were divided into 3 groups: one group received bright white light; a second group received infrared (IR) light; and a third control group received no light treatment.

At the end of the study, authors noted that, while results showed treatment for the first two groups were more effective than the third (control group), infrared (IR) light is just as effective as bright white light.

Authors concluded that infrared (IR) light is just as effective as bright white light although both are more effective than doing nothing.

We invite you to consider an InLight Photon Light Therapy System to help alleviate symptoms associated with SAD.

InLight Photon Light Therapy Blue Light Treatment for Adults with Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD)

Bright visible-spectrum light is proven to be an effective treatment for Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD).  Recent research suggests that blue LEDs account for that effectiveness.

A PubMed publication (PMID:19016463) reports about a 3-week double-blind test with narrow band blue LEDs vs. bright red LEDs.  Patients were divided into two groups: “SAD-only” and those experiencing depression with seasonal intensification.

At the end of the test, subjects from both double-blind arms improved over baseline. “SAD-alone” patients responded numerically better to treatment than those experiencing depression with seasonal intensification.

Authors concluded that blue light therapy proved superior to red light therapy. Blue light therapy produced results similar to previous visible-spectrum light studies and many medication studies. The use of bright red panels supported claims that blue lights account for the documented effectiveness of light therapy.

We invite you to consider an InLight Photon Light Therapy System to help alleviate symptoms associated with SAD.

InLight Photon Light Therapy For Seasonal Adjustment Disorder (SAD) with Blue LEDs

While light is a proven effective treatment for Seasonal Adjustment Disorder (SAD), an optimal  wavelength combination has yet to be determined, although blue LEDs have demonstrated an ability to stimulate melatonin suppression and circadian phase shifting.

An article posted in Pubmed (PMID:16165105) reports testing blue LEDs vs red LEDs for SAD patients with major depression, a seasonal pattern, and normal sleeping patterns.  Each patient received 45 minutes of morning LED treatment for 3 weeks.

At the end of the test period, authors concluded that narrow bandwidth blue light outperforms dimmer red light in reversing symptoms of major depression with a seasonal pattern.

Consider an InLight Photon Light Therapy System to help alleviate symptoms associated with SAD.
